Wedding Monogram Projectors — the Couple’s Name in Light

Project the couple's monogram or names onto the dance floor, entrance or backdrop. How the disc is made, which wattage suits a banquet hall, and prices.

A monogram projector throws the couple’s initials, names or wedding monogram onto the dance floor, the entrance or the backdrop — in light. It is the detail guests photograph without being asked to, and unlike every printed board at the venue, it is thrown away by switching it off, not by throwing anything away.

The device itself is a gobo projector — the same machine businesses use for logo projection. The wedding difference is the artwork: instead of a company logo, the small disc inside carries the monogram.

Where it goes at an Indian wedding

Because nothing is fixed, printed or pasted, projection suits venues that forbid attaching anything — and the same projector does the sangeet on Friday and the reception on Saturday in a different hall.

How the monogram is made

The artwork is etched onto a small disc called a gobo, which sits inside the projector. Send the design — initials, names, a date, a full wedding logo — and the disc comes back carrying it. On the night, light passes through the disc and the design lands wherever the projector points.

The disc choice matters more for weddings than for shop logos, and it is worth getting right. Wedding monograms tend to use fine script typefaces, thin flourishes and sometimes two colours or a gradient — exactly the artwork a metal disc handles worst and a glass disc handles well. Bold, simple initials in a single colour suit the cheaper metal disc. An intricate script monogram needs glass, and a supplier who quotes metal for one is quoting for artwork that will lose its thin strokes.

Which projector for which venue

Distance decides it — measure from where the projector can mount to where the monogram lands.

Two cautions from real installations. First, banquet halls are brightly lit during dinner — a monogram that glows during the dancing can look faint under full house lights, so add a wattage step if the hall runs bright, and expect the best effect once the lights come down. Second, lawn weddings need an outdoor-rated unit: our ORBIT series is IP67 sealed against dust and water, which also shrugs off the dew, sprinklers and sudden weather a lawn actually delivers. An indoor unit on a lawn is a warranty claim waiting to be refused.

Buy or hire? An honest answer from a company that sells them

If this is for one wedding and one wedding only, hiring locally can be the sensible choice — decorators in most Indian cities rent monogram projection by the night, and we would rather say that than sell you a machine that works one evening and then lives in a cupboard.

Buying starts to win in three situations. If the wedding runs across multiple functions and venues, one purchased 40W or 60W unit at the price of a few nights’ hire covers the haldi, sangeet and reception, and afterwards a new disc turns it into a house or business projector. If you are a decorator, planner or venue, the arithmetic is not close: the projector pays for itself in a handful of events, and each new couple costs only a new disc. And if the monogram matters enough to control — exact placement, a glass disc made properly, a test run before the event — owning the unit is what makes that possible.

After the wedding

The projector does not know it was bought for a wedding. Swap the monogram disc for any other artwork and it is a general-purpose unit: a family name at the farmhouse gate, a festival design at Diwali, a logo if there is a business in the family. The disc is the wedding-specific part; the machine is not.

Frequently asked questions

What is a wedding monogram projector?
It is a light fitting that projects the couple’s initials, names or wedding monogram onto a dance floor, entrance, backdrop or wall. The design is carried on a small disc inside the projector, made from the couple’s artwork. The device itself is a gobo projector — the same machine used for logo projection — fitted with wedding artwork instead of a company logo.
How is the monogram disc made?
You send the design and it is etched onto a small disc called a gobo, which drops into the projector. Bold single-colour initials suit a metal disc, which is cheaper. Fine script typefaces, thin flourishes, gradients or multiple colours need a glass disc, which reproduces detail a metal disc physically cannot hold.
What wattage do I need for a banquet hall?
Measure from the mounting point to the floor. Up to 3 metres needs 40W, 3 to 5 metres — which covers most banquet hall ceilings — needs 60W, 5 to 8 metres needs 100W, and beyond 8 metres needs 150W or 200W. Add one step if the hall runs brightly lit, because ambient light washes out projection, and the monogram will always look strongest once the house lights come down.
Can the monogram be projected outdoors at a lawn wedding?
Yes, with an outdoor-rated projector. Our ORBIT series is IP67 rated — sealed against dust and water — which handles the dew, sprinklers and weather a lawn wedding involves. An indoor unit must not be used on a lawn, and water damage to an indoor unit used outdoors is not covered by warranty.
Should I buy a monogram projector or rent one?
For a single one-evening event, hiring from a local decorator can be the sensible choice. Buying wins when the wedding spans several functions and venues, when you are a decorator, planner or venue who will reuse it across events with a new disc each time, or when you want control over placement, disc quality and a test run. After the wedding, swapping the disc turns it into a general-purpose projector.
Can the same projector be used for another event later?
Yes. The wedding-specific part is only the disc. Swap it and the same unit projects a different couple’s monogram, a festival design, a family name or a business logo. This is why decorators recover the cost quickly — one machine serves every event, at the price of a new disc per client.
Will it show up in wedding photographs?
Yes — a projected monogram reads clearly in photographs and video once the ambient light is moderate or low, which is when photographs of the dance floor and stage are taken anyway. During a brightly lit dinner it will look fainter to the camera, exactly as it does to the eye.
What does a monogram projector cost in India?
Our units run from around ₹8,850 for a 40W indoor model, with 60W indoor and outdoor options above that and high-power outdoor units up to ₹41,000. The custom disc is additional — metal for bold simple initials, glass for fine script — and each further event needs only a new disc, not a new projector.

Send us the monogram

Send the design, the venue, the mounting height and whether any function is outdoors. We will tell you which projector and which disc type it needs — and if a single hired night would honestly serve you better, we will say that too.
